Standard sessions usually last between 1-2 hours. I find that when photographing small children this amount of time allows for snacks, breaks, and outfit changes. Newborn session are typically longer, lasting around three hours on average. We will follow the baby’s lead with lots of time for diaper changes, nursing, etc. I try to keep things relaxed and stress-free.
Newborn sessions take place in my home studio. It has beautiful natural light and is equipped with all the necessities to make sure that the images we capture will be treasured for generations. I prefer to photograph children and families in locations that are meaningful to them. This can mean your living room, the beach, or a neighborhood park. If you need a little help deciding I’m happy to recommend some of my favorite spots. Just let me know what kind of feel you are going for, and I can help you find a location that’s perfect for you.
When to Book
In order to ensure my clients get a fabulous photography experience from start to finish, I offer a limited number of sessions each month. It is best to contact me well in advance to secure your session date, as I typically book out at least a month in advance. Newborn sessions are generally booked before the baby is born, as I find that the perfect window for newborn portraiture is 5-7 days. I understand that little one’s arrivals can be unpredictable, so I pencil the due date into my calendar and leave some openings in my schedule around that time. We will then agree on the session date after the birth of your baby.
What to Wear
Upon booking your session, I will e-mail you a guide on what to wear so that everyone can be sure to look their best. When it comes to family sessions it is also important that each individuals clothing choice blend well with the group as a whole. This can be a little bit tricky, but with some guidance and a few shopping suggestions, you’ll be on your way to looking fantastic.
Styling Your Session
I love to photograph details in my child and family sessions. I find details add interest to a gallery and help to jog the memory when looking back at images of a time gone by. By details I mean the everyday objects that your child holds dear at the moment. A detail might be the blanket that is becoming lovingly worn because your baby won’t part with it for a second; a prized collection of rocks that your two year old gathers and adds to wherever he goes; or a vintage basket that you truly love that we’ll fill with strawberries at our session at Underwood Farms. This will require taking a little time before hand to plan, but the results are oh-so-worth-it in the end.
Living is Southern California has its perks, and one of them is definitely the weather! I rarely have to reschedule due to mother nature, but it does happen every once in a while. If the weather doesn’t cooperate on the date we’ve picked I will make every effort to ensure that your session is reschedule to a date that is convenient for all involved.
Please allow 2 weeks the creation of your gallery. Each image is handcrafted and enhanced in Photoshop with the utmost of care. When your portraits are completed, I will contact you via e-mail with links to your online slide show and gallery. Please feel free to share the links with your friends and family. The gallery is live for 7 days and it is recommended that you place your order within that time frame to avoid a republishing fee. There will be at least 30 finished images in your gallery.
